Sky (Year 2)
Spring Term 2
Welcome back!
What an incredible effort you ALL made last half term with your Remote Learning. We could not be prouder of you! We are really looking forward to welcoming you back into school on Monday 8th March.
This half term, our Topic is The Victorians and we will be learning about this era- what it was like for Children, who Queen Victoria was and other significant people.
We will start our topic at home and then carry on with it when we return to school.
Here is the Topic web that tells you what we are covering this half term:
Learning Logs:
Below, you will find the learning log activities. If you would like to support your children at home, these activities have been provided for that purpose but there is certainly no pressure to complete them. The objectives are linked to the work covered in class during the half term. Your child’s Learning Log will be sent home on Monday 8th March. Please keep it at home and return it in the last week before the Easter break so we can quarantine, mark and send back home again with new tasks for the next half term.
Wow day:
We missed our fun Victorian WOW day because of Remote Learning, so we thought we would have it on Wednesday 17th March. On the day, we will be diving deeper into our topic and finding out about life in school, inventions and doing some charcoal portraits. It would be great to see the children dressed in Victorian clothing that day- if this is difficult though, don’t worry. Just a white shirt and trousers is more than enough!
Please no ‘props’ though- we are still limiting the amount of ‘extra’ items in school.
Timetable:
Each day there is an English and Maths lesson. Once a week the classes have an extended writing session called Big Write. They write for half an hour based on a writing stimulus. The children work hard to try to meet their personalised targets so that they can improve their writing.
There is also an R.E lesson or a Music lesson every other week and this term, owing to the unique circumstances, we will have two PSHE (Personal, Social and Health and Economic education) sessions, in order to allow time to focus on Wellbeing. Twice a week science lessons are taught and twice a week the classes have a Topic lesson. We also have one computing lesson a week.
This half term, Sky 1 will be having PE on a Monday afternoon and Sky 2 will be having their lesson on a Tuesday afternoon. Children will continue to come in to school dressed in their PE kits. Long hair should be tied up for P.E.
Outdoor Learning:
Although we won’t be running Forest School sessions this term, we will be outside as much as possible and will provide the children with a range of regular outdoor learning opportunities as part of our curriculum. Please make sure that your child has a pair of named wellies in school. They will be kept on our welly racks outside.
Reading
Owing to Coronavirus Health and Safety recommendations, we need to limit the frequency of items going in and out of school and will not be able to change books throughout the week. Therefore children will bring home reading books each Monday and will need to return the finished books along with their Reading Record on a Friday.
Please send your child’s named empty book bag into school on each Friday to allow us to change books- Books not returned will have to wait until the following week to be changed.
We have sent home a login for your child to access a wider range of e-books on the Oxford Owl website (see below), along with details of the letters and sounds phase your child is working at so you can read more books online if you would like to.
Each child will also have a reading book in school kept in a separate folder to read regularly to an adult.
Spellings
These are the spellings to practise at home for this half term:
Times Tables
The children are working really hard to pass levels of ‘Cracking Times Tables’
When the children return to school, we will carry out a weekly Times Tables test twice. Certificates will be given out weekly.
Class rules and behaviour
In September, the children helped to create their class rules and we all work hard to follow these.
Each Friday the class have Golden Time for half an hour and they choose from different activities each week. If they do not follow the Golden Rules during the course of the week then they might lose some Golden Time in 2 minute increments.
Please do not hesitate to email us if you have any questions or any concerns. Stay well and happy!
With best wishes from the Sky Team,
Alice Gilbert Scott, Anna Allison and Emily Roads
