Eco Warriors!
The topic this half term is ‘Eco Warriors’.
This topic has Geography and Environmental elements to it. We will be learning about how to look after our planet better as well as looking at the enironmental issues we are facing. This will be linked to books in our English lessons too! We will have our WOW day on Monday 5th June where we will be learning more about what happens when we recycle and how important this is.
Have a look at the topic web for more information about what we will be learning this half term:
Sky 1 – Mrs Allison and Mrs Richardson are your teachers and Miss Hook and Mrs Aziz work in class with you as well.
Sky 2 – Mrs Nickless and Mrs Williams are your teachers and Mrs Taourit and Mrs Eccles work in class with you as well.
Mrs Cartmell will work with both classes through the week.
Mrs Law teaches Music in both classes each week.
Learning Logs:
At the beginning of each half term a list objectives will be posted below. Please choose one task to complete each week. There are more objectives than the number of weeks so you have a wide range of activities and subject areas to choose from. If you would like to support your children at home, these objectives have been provided for that purpose but there is certainly no pressure to complete them all. The objectives are linked to the work covered in class during the half term. Please send your child’s ‘Learning Log’ into school when they have completed a piece of work and we will return it with feedback.
Maths and English Homework:
There is an optional Maths or English activity which will be sent home with your child on a Monday, based on what we are learning in class during the week. If your child completes the task – as with the Learning Logs and Reading Books – please ask him/her to take responsibility for handing it in, although we will obviously remind the children from time to time. Please do not stick the worksheets into the ‘Learning Log’ books as they are for extra practice to support learning and the teachers will use them for formative assessment. There will be a box in the classroom to put them in.
Timetable:
There is an English, Phonics and Maths lesson each day unless it is a Forest School day. Once a week the classes have an extended writing session called ‘Big Write’ where they will write independently. The children are set personalised writing targets to achieve.
Each week, we also study an aspect of Geography / History in ‘Topic’, as well as Science, Music, R.E, Computing and PSHE (Personal, Social and Health and Economic education). We incorporate Art and STEM activities into each Topic.
Meet The Teacher Presentation
If you were unable to attend the Meet the Teacher presentation, here is a copy of the presentation:

Forest School:
Both Sky classes will will have a Forest School session in the Summer Term – on Thursday both Sky 1 and for Sky 2. Please make sure your children come appropriately dressed for this day: it is fine for the children to wear their PE kit as they will now have PE on the same day as Forest School. Miss Owen will be teaching teaching the Forest School sessions for both Sky classes.
PE:
Sky will have PE twice a week and children should come into school wearing their PE kit, (or clothing suitable for PE). Sky 1 and Sky 2 will have PE on Tuesday and Thursday.
Reading
We are keen for the children to love reading and to practise at home on a daily basis where possible. Please make sure they bring both their reading record and reading books in their book bags every day. Each child will be heard to read at least once a week by an adult in the classroom.

Times Tables
The expectation by the end of Year 2 is that the children know their 2, 5 and 10 times tables. Alongside understanding the processes involved in multiplying and dividing, the children need to be able to quickly recall times table facts. To aid the latter, we will begin ‘Cracking Times Tables’ at the start of this term. This is the scheme for monitoring the learning multiplication facts. The children will be expected to learn times tables at home (about 5-10 minutes each day is ideal) and they will be tested each week in class. The learning and testing are based around a series of ten levels – click on the link below.
Cracking Times Tables – Pyramid
‘Oxford Owl’ has helpful suggestions to aid your child with learning their times tables: Oxford Owl – Times Table tips.
Our class email addresses are below. Please use these for non-urgent queries and information, as we will not be able to check emails whilst we are teaching during the day we ask that if you have something urgent to let us know please email the school office where it can be dealt with more quickly. Please also use the school office email to report if your child is absent as they will need to update the register straight away.
